Hi,

I want to register a domain name, but don't have a web hosting account for it yet. I can register the domain name myself, but I need nameservers to point it to. I would like to find someone who could host a single domain name for free or little charge, and set it up in their nameservers to point to a different address. Basically a nameserver entry to that redirects...

Any advice?

Thanks!

I register my domains at Domain Monger and they will forward it anywhere for free, I point mine to dynu and they forward it to my machine here. dynu also has a client to updaty your dynamic address, works great. Or you can use zoneedit and transfer your domain to them. they are also free for the 1st 5 accounts.

Does Dynu work for any local server? I've seen Dynamic DNS serivces that only forward web traffic or that purposely restrict you from running your own mailserver at the domain by simply running their own and then charging you for the addresses! Basically, I'd use it for FTP and hosting netplay games and whatever else peaks my interest at the time (VPN? ;)). Does it support these activities? Thnx!

I know that granitecanyon.com provides free primary and secondary dns servers -- with zero restrictions! All you have to do is input your zone record into their online form, hit submit, and voila, your DNS is updated.

Zoneedit is SO much nicer and user friendly and they update immediately unlike granitecanyon
