So what kind of sound cards could I put in my PC to drive 50 pairs of these? 6 x 8ch sound cards = 24ch audio, darn, would still have 26 speakers left to hook up.. :p

Forget "faked" 3D audio - mount an actual 360-deg. array of speakers around your chair! Maybe two arrays, one up high and one down low. Enhance your FPS gaming experience like never before! Feel like you're actually there!

About $2.70 a pair if you were to buy 50. I'm considering this- I'd be able to include speakers with my next 50 systems for under $3. How bad can they be?

Are these powered?

I have a pair that looks like those and they wont make sound with a Creative live or Fortissimo II PCI sound card.

They do work with an old Sound Blaster ISA.

Yeah, they don't look powered, and a lot of sound cards these days (especially onboard ones) require powered speakers, because they lack the amp needed to drive them themselves. (Older SB cards being the exception.) They look a lot like the Altec Lansing side-of-monitor speakers that used to ship with name-brand OEM systems, but slightly different case shape.
