Is freecreditreport.com really free? Are there better free credit checks out there?

annualcreditreport.com is what you want. 1 free report from each of the three bureaus once a year.

No it is not really free. You have to enroll in their credit monitoring program. Then if you don't cancel it you get billed $20 a month. Canceling is a PIA too. I had to call twice and it still showed up on my card.

I think the whole credit report thing is a scam anyway. They are allowed to keep sensitive personal information about you , that requires you to pay to view the report. You should be allowed to view it anytime you like for free, not just once a year.
Does it really cost them mountains of cash to let you view it ?

annualcreditreport.com first of all.
Second, I think that credit reporting bureaus have too much power over people's lives. It really is a scam. Hell, many employers even check your credit to decide whether to hire you or not. This should be illegal.

In additional to annual you can go through creditkarma and get your credit score as well.

Whatever of the non-ripoff sites you use, just remember you can only get a report from each bureau once per year and you could stagger with a report every 4 months from a different place if you are really paranoid about your credit history.

freecreditreport.com is indeed free, and everybody who says otherwise is just a moron who doesn't know what they're getting in to

Yes they want you to enroll in their thing, which will eventually charge you monthly, but that's only if you're too stupid to pick up the phone and cancel after you get your free report. They tell you how to do this... it's not hard. I've done it several times and I've never had a charge on my card.

But as stated, annualcreditreport.com is the better option.

I just did Transunion through annualcreditreport.com and they wanted me to pay for my Score. I didn't realize a 'report' just shows your cards and if you have any late payments the last few years. Who doesn't know that they have made late payments??

Do the other two supply any more useful information for free?

If you have an AMEX card you can run a report off their website. It's easy, no BS or spam, and takes like 5 minutes. Totally worth it.

not really... but the point is to make sure that all info are correct, no CC or Loan that you didn't apply, all credit checks were with your consent and things like that.

If you used Experian to get one of your scores I'd suggest you call 1.888.829.6560 to cancel after your 7 day free trial. I got my credit score with them and you HAVE to call to get it canceled or they will charge your 14.95/month to keep their services. It's pretty easy, you say no to their offers and they cancel it. Just keep an eye on your bank statements just in case.

Not with annualcreditreport.com. It is totally free and doesn't ask for credit card info.

FreeCreditReport.com makes you sign up with a credit card and you have to cancel.
