Free as in beer, that is. I think requires T-Mobile storefront, maybe mall Kiosk. Activation is required ($35), adding a new line to family plan counts as activation. If you decide to start a new plan, make sure you start it before you cancel the old plan, otherwise you have to wait 90 days to get a deal. If you have already purchased a new phone (and think these deals are better) you should have 14 days "buyers remorse" to cancel the activation and return the equipment, check w/ T-Mobile to verify.
On to the Deal!
Actually noticed this in one of the reviews @ amazon, thought I'd try it:
Amazon has several phones at extremely good prices:
Samsung s105 $300 - $250 Amazon rebate - $50 activation rebate =FREE
Sony Ericsson T68i $274.99 - $250 Amazon rebate = $24.99
Motorola V60g $249.99 - $200 Amazon rebate - $50 activation = FREE
Sony Ericsson T300 w/ camera $149 - $100 Amazon rebate - $50 activation = FREE
Motorola T720i $249.99 - $200 Amazon rebate - $50 activation rebate = FREE
Also some of the cheaper phones are FAR, but why buy less for the same price.
Pick your phone, print out the page with the price showing the rebates and the pages with the rebate forms. Take the pages down to your local T-Mobile store (may also work with mall kiosk). Show the ad to the CSR and ask if they can match it. Mine matched the price for two Samsung s105's, out the door for the $35 ea activation fee (to add two lines to my family plan) and NO OTHER COSTS! No rebates to mess with! Phones (after activation)were Free! (as in beer).
OK, Closing comments:
CSR did say that he would not give me a free phone AND a rebate. Unlike Amazon (which has some phones -$50 AR) he would not pay me go take a phone. That's OK, FREE worked for me.
Give it a couple of weeks for everything to clear (and for Christmas to arrive) and I'll cancel my wifes current plan. She will have to change phone numbers, but she doesn't give it out to anyone anyway, so she'll think it's a good trade for this color phone!
As for the other one, well T-Mobile sold me a Motorola V66 for $50 + a few $ more (for some tax or something) in return for extending my contract for another year. The sim card from one of the s105's (with one of the new lines) will go in the V66 and that will go to my daughter as part of her Christmas present. And that means .... that the sim card from my 3390 goes in the other one! Christmas for Dad as well!
Choice of phones:
I liked the s105. You may think a different model is better. Great! Go for it! I made my choice, I'll live with it, if you like one of the others better, I wish you Good Luck in trying to get the deal for whatever phone you'd like. However, I am not going to come back and debate the merits of one phone versus another.
NOTE: YMMV. I don't know if the storefronts are required to to match this price or not. Ask NICELY! Do NOT print out THIS notice, bring it down to the store and demand they match it! One of the phone reviews @ Amazon mentioned this so I thought i'd give it a try (kind of tacky, I thought, to put info on how to match Amazon's price at Amazon's site, but I still tried it so I guess I can't say anything). I do NOT guarentee all storefronts (or kiosks) will do this.
