Free car repair manuals online?

Sort of continuing Beau's thread, I'm looking for a car repair manual for a 1988 VW Jetta. Which is the best? Official, Chilton, Haynes? Other?

What can I say, I like to recycle (threads). 🙂

*edit* ok, after 2 more seconds of looking, I found a thread saying Helm's manuals > all. Is that the general consensus?

Yes there is, but I am not going to post the URL because last time I did, ATOT swamped the site and changed the URL in one DAY.

What about a PM? 😉. It's ok if I have to buy it, too. I just wanna know which one to buy. Thanks for the replies guys.

I think you might find official ESMs and FSMs on EBay for real cheap.

The ones offered on CD-ROM are illegal scanned copies of the orginals...not that it has ever stopped anyone 😉.

Anyways, if you post the make/model/year you're looking for someone here might be able to "point you in the right direction".

1988 VW Jetta GL. I can't find any Helms website, I think I found some Chilton's guides for my car... one that just says Bentley Publishing. If it was Helms, it would say so as the publisher or somewhere in the credits right?

chilton's?

Bentley publishers?

Chilton and Haynes in ONE??

slikmunks i WISH, i had an rx-7. My uncle has the last version of the RX-7 that was avail in the US, it would look really sweet with a straight-out headlight conversion

haynes manuals are good, but sometimes they're a bit too general... i just got the factory one for my car... set me back 80 bucks, but well worth it... if you HAPPEN to have a fc3s, you can go to fc3s.org and they have it all scanned and stuff... btw, fc3s is 1986-1991 rx7's

Purchase Haynes repair manuals, they are by far the most accurate, Chilton's used to be the absolute best, but they are no longer printed.

Chilton no longer in the auto manual business???

Chilton no longer in the auto manual business???

Go out and try to find a Chilton's repair manual specific to a make and model, they only make large repair manuals that deal with vehicle lines.

The Chilton's I bought for my car, 91 Accord, covers 84-95 Accord/Prelude and was pretty good IMHO. Course, I went out and bought the factory service manual which is 100X better but even so....

if you're looking for a free one, you're gonna have to be specific car... i know that there's one for 2nd gen rx7's... too bad there are like, 3 rx7 guys on AT, and 2 of them are prob'ly inactive or someth....
