I don't want to pay CarFax and AutoCheck 20 bucks each to give me a report on the vin for this car. When I do the "free" check CarFax states there are 7 records and Auto Check says 16.

Does anyone know if it is possible to get this same information some where else for free?

If you're buying from a dealer or small car lot, they can provide you with a free CarFax report. If they refuse to do so, then I wouldn't do business with them anyway. If it's a Private Party vehicle, you could ask the seller to provide one but it's not required. You likely won't find a service online that just offers up free reports. IMO, the $19.99-$25 fee is worth it when you consider the car you're buying is likely a large purchase.

go to a bank and tell them you want a loan for the vehicle (even if you dont want a loan). the bank checks the history of the vehicle (for free) and lets you know of any problem. if not, they will say that they can process your loan. just deny the loan then.

Give me the VIN and I'll run a NADA (Which is powered by Autocheck) check on it for you.
