FREE BRAIN CANDY! JPL Open House - May 14th and 15th, 2011

If you live in southern California, cancel whatever you had planned this weekend, and get out to Pasadena for Jet Propulsions Lab's open house. I've been to previous JPL open houses. The actual space geeks are out there to explain everything on display, and it's all FREE! :thumbsup: 😎 :thumbsup:

I saw the title and immediately thought of the George Carlin book, Brain Droppings.

Been to one years ago. Really great experience, especially for kids. You can meet space uber-geeks who will regale you with stories about the various missions that are underway. I don't know if they still have it but there was a full scale replica of the Voyager spacecraft (or was it a test model?) and it is fascinating to think that one of these flimsy contraptions is at the outer edges of the solar system still sending back data after three decades. I'm not a big fan of post-Apollo NASA, but I believe the work JPL does in space exploration is phenomenal and money well spent.

Brings back memories of my internship there! The Von Karmen auditorium has some really neat pieces in its collection.

Fun fact, deep in the mountain behind the lab they have a tunnel that used to be used to test jet and rocket engines. Also, underneath the fountain in the middle of the lab I heard there used to be a radiation testing laboratory.

What internship was it? I did a USRP a couple years back and a Caltech SURF there last year. I was in the planetary atmospheres division.
