Maybe some of you wont consider this a hot deal, but i sure as hell do...

I spoke to a CSR at my local 24-hour Walmart and was told that after 10:30pm everynight, you are able to wander the store and take any empty boxes (first come first serve), as long as they dont have the Wal-Mart logo on them (only 3-5% or so do).

Now i know you can go behind stores to pick up boxes, but typically they are wet, or stink, or have been mauled. This way you get the box right after it was opened and they have CRAPLOADS of different sizes to choose from. Plus you dont have to go from store to store asking if they have any left over boxes.

I left with over 3 shopping carts full of boxes the other night, and i plan to go back and get more tonight...

Not sure on other 24-hour Walmart policies, but both of them in Gainesville, FL say anytime after 10:30pm, its free reign.. So YMMV :)

Happy Box Hunting!

Albertson's grocery store is the same way. They pile them up in the aisles and are glad to have you pick them up and
take them away.

I'm glad I saw this thread. I gotta go to usps.com and order some free boxes and free tape :)

I've always gotten my boxes for years from the "state government" liquor store (hah!)
Anyway they always have tons of boxes around and they are free for everyone to pick up. People are often doing this and it seems to be common knowledge. Much more convenient than driving (and parking!) to Wal-Mart

I like going to my local liquor store. The boxes are sturdy & have dividers that can be removed. And most important they have fine beverages in case all that work makes you thirsty.

I work at walmart and I or anyone else at our store could care less if the boxes said walmart or anything on them. If you call, they can usually get a cart of boxes ready for you ahead of time even during the day as long as they are working freight out to the sales floor.

Wow.

I have no idea why I didn't think of this before. I'm going to have to try it.

Really? Wow... Well at my store the door guy even checked all of our boxes as we left to make sure they didnt say Walmart... Guess it varies by store...

I also work there and the only ones you can't take are the "breakpack" boxes because the store gets credit for re-using them. They fold up and do say Wal-Mart on them. I know they wouldn't let you take them here. But as you said YMMV.
