Cool...I've been curious as to how comprehensive these tests are. Good way to show how much further then the 3k/3mnth recommendation while still keeping the engine safe.

Keep in mind that any analysis is only valuable as a trending tool. Your oil conditions literally change from minute to minute.

But, yes, it will give you an idea of how broken down your oil is. But "shearing" isn't the only way to lose lubrication from the oil. Contaminants blow in and out of your crankcase as you drive. Dirt gets filtered out. You get the idea.

I've always used Blackstone Labs http://www.blackstone-labs.com/

They'll always send you free collection kits and only charge you when you send them in. They email a PDF and mail hardcopy - and keep your history and give a nice summary expert opinion.

I usually keep my cars 10+ years and am less interested in extending my drain intervals than in knowing when things are going bad.

Thanks, OP, for the deal and another bump for Blackstone. I've got my oil drain interval up to about 6,000 mi on a VQ35DE engine running Mobil1 5W30.

Bump for the VQ35DE second only to the SR20DE. Too bad mine is still showing high lead - might be premature bearing wear.

Whatcha got Coraanu? G35 Coupe 6MT?
