Free Backup utility?

I had to do a full reformat / Wipe to get rid of all my spyware.

If I have to do this again, I would like to have some bootable CDs of my system's current state.

Is there a free utility that will do this for me?

I only have a cd burner, not DVD.

A bootable CD? To run Windows XP? Nao possibo.

As for "free" backup software, I suppose the built-in CD burning in Windows XP should count for that. Honestly, the quickest backup is to copy your "Documents and Settings" folder to CD (minus anything you don't need in there) plus anything else that is important to you.

Norton Ghost will probably do what you have in mind (restore your system from CD), but it's very expensive.

I don't know of any free backup software but Spybot is free and it removes spyware. You are looking for a program like Norton Ghost to image your current OS state.

You could possibly use the "file and settings migration" tool built into XP and save this to another computer or possibly to a CD drive.

Good luck

Buy an external enclosure and a large HD....

Then learn how to write a batch file.

THis is how I backup my systems and it's all automated. You'll learn something in the process.

Yes - something like norton ghost, but cheaper.

When I bought my Plextor drive years ago, it came with a tool to do just what I want - give me a bootable disc or discs that would put my system completely together back on the hard drive - I could format the drive, then install the cd's and voila - system back to exactly how it was when I made the image - only I have lost the Plextools disc.

Now I need a free program that supports the backup feature - maybe windows does have this built in somewhere?
