Free background check?

Has anyone come across any sites that will give a free background check, or something close to it?

You can search the public court records in your state. Here in WI it's the Wisconsin Circuit Court Access something. Works pretty well.

North Carolina has an electronic calendar, which can be searched by county, court type, or last name of defendant. There is also a searchable database of Supreme Court Opinions online as well as Court rules.

The North Carolina Business Court allows users to search electronic records by entering either the case number or parties' names.
