UPDATE: PREVIOUS THREAD WENT WAYY OFF TOPIC - Lets try to keep this one focused on getting free appliances via the "kenmore challenge"!

Sears stores have something called the "PRICE CHALLENGE" as advertised in their sale papers...if you can find a better deal on featured products in their ad, you get the cost of the item in the form of a Sears Gift Check! Recently they have offered some electronics, but mainly appliances.

All you need to do is find a COMPARABLE (need not be same brand) item with the same or more features at a better price somewhere else! Granted, this is pretty difficult, but possible places to find a better deal are:
Bestbuy
Lowe's
Home Depot

I did this recently and got a FREE WATER HEATER!! They arent currently offering the challenge on the water heater,,this week I believe the items in my title are the featured KENMORE CHALLENGE items. When I got the water heater, I asked if anyone else had taken advantage of their guarantee and they said no! Has anyone else on here taken the KENMORE CHALLENGE???

Please, lets keep this thread intelligent and eliminate stupid questions, heres some anticipated answers:

1. You need to meet a specific set of features for each model to "beat" the challenge. The info is available ONLY in the stores, they have a little checklist you can take to comparison shop. Not all stores even have this info, as apparently few people have ever taken the "challenge".

You can begin the search for better deals by looking at a Sears ad to find the types of items and prices you must try to beat...

2. You need to BUY the item, then present the better deal. You can return the item later and keep the Gift Check.

3. The "challenge" items are advertised IN THE SUNDAY SEARS SALE PAPER!! From there you can see what appliances qualify...But you often need to go to the store to find the exact specs of the item which must be beat...some stores have a "checklist", others do not...if anyone gets one of the checklists, post it!

FROM BABYCAKES ON OTHER THREAD: (quoting from Sears sale paper)

Take the Kenmore Challenge
We're so confident that when you purchase either of these dishwashers, if you find another brand of dishwasher with all of these features at the same or lower price, we'll give you the dishwasher FREE*

Then the fineprint below on the page:

Kenmore Challenge excludes other Kenmore products, military PX, internet retailers, mail order, closeouts, clearance, one-of-a-kind items, reconditioned items, competitive service agreements and extended warranties. See stores for additional Kennmore Challenge information and a complete list of features. Refund does not include delivery or installation charges. Offer good for 30 days following the date of your Kenmore purchase during this promotion. Refund thru mail-in rebate. Total capacity. Dishwasher and microwave prices are for black. White for all other appliances, unless otherwise indicated. Colors, connectors, ice maker hook-ups and installation extra.

Bump this thread. The other thread is so OT it should be locked.

I could use some new major appliances. Anyone know what appliances are currently in the challange? And what the specs are you have to match? Pulling one of these off would be a truely HOT DEAL! Worth some work.

Is there any way to find what these weekly items are online (either at a Sears site or a 3rd party site)? Or do you have to actually find a hard copy of the weekly ad? I'm asking since I don't get a Sunday newspaper. . . .

This could be almost worth an ongoing exclusive topic here.
I would like to see the ads posted each week.... (which appliances qualify, etc.)
and maybe even have the check list(s) posted as well.

If we could figure this one out (simplify) could be very hot.

I need a new fridge and microwave NOW!
Thanks for the cleaned up post.
:)

Heck ... I'd even pay a finders fee! :D

this week's challenge items are a upright and canister vac, a dishwasher and (i think) a washing machine...anyone going into a Sears store should be able to find out which models they are and what features need to be compared and beat....

If anyone finds items advertised in WA St. that would meet these requirements, PM me. I'd love to pick up a Washer for the new house. I'll just toss it in storage for a little while.

I am certain I can beat the challenge with one of the GE washers from Sam's Club. I'll check later on Saturday. If anyone gets a chance before then let me know. The GE washers at Sams have many features.

Wonder if challenge is Ok to match with Sams...

DealMeIn,

The dishwashers are on page 22 of the sale paper. The list as:

A. Kenmore Ultra Wash dishwasher, Save $70.00
Tall tub design, anti-bacterial cycle, Quiet Guard #15889 Sale $499.99

B. Kenmore dishwasher, save $90.00 Hi-Temp Scrub, Sani-Rinse, Quiet Guard
#15732 Sale $399.99

Says we're so confident that when you purchase either of these dishwashers, if you find another brand of dishwasher with all these features at the same or lower price, we'll give you the dishwasher FREE.

the fineprint is above in the first post that Spec411 posted.

Just curious if anyone has done this. The fine print mentions refund thru mail-in rebate. Just wondering how all this works out.

Just wanted to mention in my sale ad the Washer that you mentioned #20702 shows as a closeout for me. I didn't find the Challenge on it.

I must have a different flier. I got mine at the store, not in the sunday paper. I see the $399 dishwasher, but no mention of the challenge. I could use it, too.
How do you do the PM? If the CostCo or whatever has the cheaper item, how do you prove it? I doubt they have a printed catalog of everything. Take a photo?

spec411: Did you get a Gift Check immediately or did you have to wait 8-10 weeks for a rebate?

This is sweet, you get a gift check to sears. Meaning you can buy anything in the store, right? Not just the appliance you found a deal for?

Also, can someone please post the item that Sears has and a place where it is cheaper. I believe they accept online prices as well. So find a cheap-ass place, post it here w/ the corresponding product and we've all got free whateveritis!

I think what we're all really looking for here is an example of someone successfully implementing this (and how we can replicate it).

Please - if there's someone out there who can give us specific examples of items we can use, post it asap!!

FYI - Costco doesn't pricematch anything over the phone. I tried to match a refrigerator with Wards and no go. Don't know about Sam's Club though. Anybody try Lowe's?

Ok, folks. I took a stab at this last summer on the washing machine. I'm 0 and 1. Here's how it went down:

Bought the washing machine.

Submitted the challenge form. Challenger was an Admiral washing machine advertised at Wards with 3.3 cu. ft capacity and 16 cycles.

Waited 3+ months I believe for a reply from Sears corporate. I never picked up the washing machine during this time.

Got reply. Was shot down on Sears direct-drive motor versus Admiral belt-drive motor (misinformed by Wards sales rep - doh!). Also, on usable capacity - said their 3.0 cu. ft. had superior rollover to Admiral 3.3 cu. ft. Didn't really present any scientific evidence to support that claim.

Went back to Sears and returned washing machine.

Also, sometimes Sears will try to play you with these challenges (does that surprise you?). They had one for a Hoover carpet cleaner once, stating that if you could find the exact same one for less, they'd refund you $100.

I called Hoover and found out the model they advertised was a Sears exclusive. Nice!

Sounds like they are committing false and misleading advertising. Advertising that you have a chance of getting this item for free when in fact there is no chance at all, becase it is a Sears only part, or has a feature that they have a trademark or patent for. Its a bunch of BS...
