Free app that takes VIDEO screen captures?

I've seen some videos used for software training and was wondering what they're using to make these video presentations. Are there any free software that does this?

Hmm..nowhere does the feature list mention anything about screen capture..video capture yes, but not actual system motion UI capture.
I need something that will capture everything I see on my computer screen and save it as an optimized video. That's what these guys who make these MS Server tutorials are using and I may recall that there was a freeware app that did this.

Like screen recording, recording all your mouse movements and activity?

Edit: Ayup, you said that.. Hmm, I know of FRAPS, but it isn't free. I'll look around.

Yep, windows of Windows, applications etc. I want to make video tutorials for recording applications. Hell at this point I am open to shareware and commercial apps that can do this.

I think they use video out on the video card, and plug it to the video in of their camcorder. That's what I did in my video class a few years back in high school.

I have been looking into screen capture software for a few weeks now, and it seems that CamStudio is the best open source freeware app. Now having that said, it is almost impossible to find the source code for this application along with the lossless codec. Thus, I created a little blog about this software and a download area.

Check it out here:

yup was going to mention camstudio. I've had v1.2.2 installer forever... have never needed it but thought it would come in handy one day. It's handy alright... it turns out I can use it in a reply thread.

Will this Camstudio capture audio...???
Because I am looking for something that will capture some quicktime movies with the audio...???
