I remember there is a free anti virus program and can't remember the name. I think it starts avg something. does anyone where I can download this?

yes, Grisoft is the place... btw, I didn't check, but someone told me recently that it wasn't free anymore... (but, then again, they're the same idiot who paid 29.99 for Kazaa and told me they were downloading legally now)
 
Many times Norton, Mcafee (by themselves or bundled with other software) as part of rebate and FAR deals are free as well.
 
If you go to a university you can probably get norton or something for free.

I get norton corperate for free from school (Wisconsin).
