Free alternatives to Microsoft Visio? Or shareware?

I haven't found any good FREE programs like Visio, but I've found demos with limited functionality on download.com. Don't know any of their names, but they're not hard to find.

it means it must be able to draw boxes with labels. Why won't photoshop work ?

well word has all the boxes and arrows available.

plus visio is so much faster because of the little connector objects and snappers and macros and other niceties.

Illustrator would work for basic boxes and stuff with the rasterized gfx and snap points.

I know, but I'm guessing he has Word and it'll do in a pinch.

Since you can't post in the correct forum, how about just a box of crayons. You might be able to handle those, but keep them out of your nose this time.
