Free $50 from Principal Bank for opening checking account

Ops , sorry bout that , anyways .... this looks like its only for usa ppl eh./

Bah us poor cnd's cant get any deals

Seems like students only need $50 to open an account, and it also mentions a "free gift at account opening". Hmmm, wonder what it may be.

I wasn't really clear from the site info. How much do you have to keep in the account for 6 months? Is it the whole thing or can you withdraw most of it once you get paid?

Yeah, but...reading the fine print:

"$50 account closing fee if funds are not left on deposit for at least six months."

No minimum balance to maintain

I assume as long as you leave a cent in there for 6 months you won't get charged as there is no minimum and all you need to do is have it opened for 6 months...

Bank one is doing the same here (Chicagoland area) in a mailer. I believe their terms are that you have to keep the minimum balance to get the fifty. Both my gf and I are going to open an account each. It'll be a free hundred into a Roth IRA. 🙂

One of the questions is: Which types of checks would you like for your Checking Account?

and they let you chose between "single" and "double". What the heck does that mean?

Do you have to keep your principal in there for 6 months, or can you withdraw little by little? For example, by 'Month 5', there would only be $25...

I did this a while back when the offer was $50 and $20 Amazon GC.

They're pretty easy to deal with, just remember to properly destroy the checks if you don't plan on keeping the account.
I personally burned them 🙂

Shredding is just too boring.

So if I get this right,

you can withdrawl up to say the entire balance (I'd leave a buck or two). Then keep the account open for 6 months, then close it, and come out ahead $50...

??
