For me :D

I did extensive computer work for someone, and in return they are getting me a 40GB IPOD next week:D

I need some advice as to whether I should accept the offer or ask for a different Player. I only have 25GB of music(wma lossless which I will rerip for this) so the rest will be for filestorage:D Obviously I will get more music in the future.

a:SO, ARE mP3, wav, aac, AND AUDIOBOOK THE ONLY FORMATS THAT ipod SUPPORTS?

Well?

EDIT:

I thank everyone for their help. After reading the wealth of information posted and that I found on my own, I find that I just cannot justify the purchase.

1) $500 is a LOT for a 1 year old [iPOD] Music Player model.
2) I've heard interesting rumors about the new ipod models, and I'd rather wait.
3) The iriver is nice and all, but regardless of the fact that it may be technically superior, the IPOD's functionallity with itunes is seamless. I want to drag my songs to it, listen to them, single some out for later, and be done with it. Voice recording, a display that displays EVERY DAMN THING YOU COULD POSSIBLY WANT TO KNOW ABOUT A FILE, and Input/outputs are great, but they do not appeal to me, as I honestly would never need them.

4) I will bank the rest after I buy Snapstream's PVR software and a WINTV 250 Hardware encoder/TV tunercard :D f

I will deal with my minidisc 'till the new ipod comes out ( expected by end of april/early summer) :D

Will the re-ripping be much of a pain? If not, then get it. 40GB Ipods are expensive and swank.

Edit: From Apple's Web site, Audio support AAC (16 to 320 Kbps), MP3 (32 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible, AIFF and WAV .

One question: I love to cycle. What accessories, if any, exist to take the IPOD iwth me, such as a armstarp type thing? Obviously this is too big for that, but what are my options?

get the iRiver iHP-140 if you want the best mp3 player out there. It's the same size as an ipod, has USB Mass storage capabilities, fm reciever, optical in/out, twice the battery life, interal mike, text support, OGG, and SRS surround sound.

Ah yes- I almost forgot- make sure you have some kind of warantee. I know somebody who got some kind of unconditional warantee from CompUSA (apparently you don't have to buy it there...?) and was very glad, because of the battery issue. They just handed him a new one when he said 'It doesn't charge'.

Oh and if you are concered about size difference between the iRiver and iPod.

iPod: 4.1 by 2.4 by 0.73 inches
iRiver: 4.13 by 2.36 by 0.94 inches

iPod weight: 6.2 ounces
iRiver weight: 6.5 ounces

For the very small increase in size, you get so many more features.

I'm fairly certain that in at least NY State it is illegal to ride a bicycle while listening to stuff through your headphones.

Anyway... have you considered an Archos product? They're not the best MP3 players (at least not the Jukebox MM20 we have) but it's great for other stuff (like taking with your digicam on vacation for pic storage).
