Free 3D Engine

I'm trying to find a free 3D engine for a first person RPG (like Morrowid). I've been doing some looking and I have become thoroughly confused, Ogre 3D, Irrlicht, Crystal Space, Panda 3D, Open Scene Graph? The team has a few of competent C++ programmers, but none of them much experience. Our primary concern is ease of use but we don't want to sacrifice alot of power for that ease.

Well I know it's not an RPG but maybe you could modify Quake 3. It is a really good engine and they made it GPL now. I'm not sure if any other free engine comes close to that, but I could be wrong. Not sure about licensing details...

I've been working wiht a group that is using the Torque engine to develop games in. Its not that hard to learn and the main crux is you have to know a bit of 3d graphics development.

I used to know some developers who were using this to develop a game. The engine was quite impressive but it requires knowledge of Opengl if I recall correctly.

Quake 3 is now free under GPL, uses C though.

buying Half Life 2 gives you access to the Source SDK. and if your game turns out to be decent, you might even be able to sell it over Steam.
