I got a customer code# from them in the mail. If you didn't get one, try logging on as
a "guest" and see if you can sign up for a free evaluation of their gigabit nic.

Edited: Sorry guys, I should have checked it out completely before posting. I guess you can't sign up for the card a "guest". :(

I did one of these 3Com trials a year or so ago. They were really good about it... "30 days, 45 days... take as long as you like to evaluate these!"

I got the 3COM offer for the via Snail-mail, in which the NIC is yours to keep. Definitely different than the trial offer posted on the web site for guest members. Oh well, what are my chances of getting in anyways?...plus who has a motherboard with a PCI-X slot on it anyways?

A PCI-X card will work in 4x, 2x or even plain-jane 1x PCI, assuming the voltages match. If the card is 3.3V only and your slot is 5V, the card will not even plug into the connector, so at least you don't have to worry about smoking it.
