Searched on OfficeMax site and nothing on any Compaq product even came up. What the story on this deal, if it really is a deal?

YOU DO NOT NEED TO BUY A COMPUTER.

I have already submitted my serial# and got a email confirmation.

The only problem is that these monitors are on clearance, so some stores will only have one or two and some may not have them at all.

you cannot order it online. Its a clearance item. Does anyone have the list of the stores that have the MV720 in stock provided by NeoV? It was in his thread?

I agree with KingZ, as before his last post, I went to the rebate form, and from what I intepreted, the $100 rebate is valid for the monitor, no pc purchase necessary. Hot deal if you can find one.

Whew!! Just got back from grabbing one of these.

I knew my local OM had them in stock, because I was checking them out last week when NeoV had his thread going. They came up as regulat price last week...

Anyway, I got there within 6 minutes of reading kingz' post. I picked up a slip, and walked over to a couple employees to see if they had 'em in stock. The employees took me to an aisle, and pointed up to the shelf where there was one left!!

As I headed to the checkout, the manager walked past us and remarked that another MV720 was being sold!! Apparently, another one had been sold earlier in the day. Looks like the employees/manager had no idea about the price...

If whoever bought that one did so because of this board, I want to sincerely thank you for not being greedy and taking them both!!

Anyway, the employees/manager were lurking by the registers when I was checking out, but luckily walked away when it rang up: $100! ($108 with tax). The cashier didn't care less of course that I was walking out with a 17" monitor for $108 (I'm glad I didn't show her the $199 pull tag, and instead let her get the sku off the box. It's not a big deal, but if the manager would have gotten involved, I feared getting the "I can't sell you this" mumbo jumbo)

Thanks for the post kingz!! I really needed an extra monitor for my parents back home.

Now for the rebate...do you actually have to open the box and get the serial number off the monitor to use the Rebate Website, or can you get it off the box?? Do you have to mail anything in once you "pre-qualify" or whatever they call it on the website??

Never mind--I just spotted the 12-character serial number on the side of the box. I submitted it to the website, and I'm good to go!! Just have to mail in some stuff, and the monitor will have cost me $8!!!

THANKS AGAIN!!!

Anyone know if the HP is better than the Compaq? The few reports I found (very few) seem to indicate the HP is better. But is it by a lot? I got the HP already, but the store I got it at also had the Compaq. Probably gone by now, anyway. But I am wondering if the HP is a lot better. BTW, the HP 17" HAD a $50 rebate that ended last Saturday, when I bought the one I got. Unless they put out another rebate for it, the only godd HP rebate is the one for the 15".

Kingz,
I owe you a large frosty one.
I read your post not 15 minutes after OM called me to tell me that the price had gone down on the MV720 (an employee had put it on hold for me last week)
They wanted to know if I still wanted it.

I hightailed it dow there.

Unfortunatly it had no box, (last one) so I'm hoping that they will honow the rebate without the s/n scan tape. I did input the s/n online and it is good.

Wish me luck with the rebate.
I usually don't buy extended warantys, but I did on this. $20 to get GE to cover it for 2 years instead of Compaq for 1. Since I figured I'm getting it for nothing I could never replace it for nothing if it broke.

Thanks for your timely post.

I work at ABC Warehouse, competitor to OM. We sold those monitors as well and the rebate applies stand-alone on the MV720 and MV920 monitors. Buy a monitor and get the rebate. No other strings attached. Good find with the clearance prices going on. Wish we had some left in stock. I would have a relative price-match us and pay them for me.

Oh well. Good luck finding more guys.

The HP monitors and Compaq monitors are about equal quality and not high in that. They are average, run-of-the-mill screens. They work and look fine. Just not what I expect with a $200 or $300 price-tag on a 17" monitor. I am used to monitors of that size and stats being priced at $150 w/ $50 rebate = $100 17" monitor. When I think of a $300 17", I think of the Sony Trinitron monitors. Now there is a challenge, find a really hot deal on those. :)

I found this link last week but it rejected my monitor for a rebate when I typed in the serial number so I did not post this. I guess I will have to try entering the numbers again. Either I made a mistake entering the number or not all MV720's are eligable.

EDIT: I went back and rechecked for this rebate. Boy am I glad I did, my monitor DID qualify! Free monitor, now that IS a HOT DEAL!!
