I have no idea if this has been posted, but I spent some time searching and didn't find anything...

Saw this on techbargains - requires entering a credit card. They have a much larger list of magazines then most other free mag deals.

Free Mags at Magazine Outlet

<OR>

Link from Half.com (requires $15 purchase)

You have 3000 points when going to this link, and from what I can tell can just surf around and choose the mags you want. Not sure if I understand the tersm tho:

While you're enjoying your rewards and annually thereafter, you will receive a notice with the option to cancel. As long as you are 100% satisfied, do nothing. Your magazines will continue to be delivered each year without annoying publisher renewal notices and your credit card will be charged the rate shown on the notice for the next year of issues. You must be delighted or you can cancel any time by calling the toll free number provided in the e-mail order confirmation.

If you go over the 3000 points, it says that it will charge you $0.02 per point - so I went over 100 points = $2.00 (for PC Gamer and EGM).

Just sounds a little TOO simple, ya know?

While I'm enjoying my rewards and annually thereafter, I'll receive a notice with the option to cancel. If I care to continue, it's easy. As long as I'm 100% satisfied, I need do nothing. Please continue to deliver my magazine(s) each year without unwanted publisher renewal notices and charge my account the rate shown on the notice for the next year of issues. I must be delighted or I can cancel any time by calling the toll free number provided in my e-mail order confirmation. My account information, including name, address, and credit card number, will be used by MagazineOutlet.comSM to fulfill my redemption.

i wonder how easy it is to cancel after the first year? i bet they count on you losing the email. but other than that it sounds like a pretty good deal as long as you can remember to keep the email handy.

hey, there's a way to not even bother w/ the possible cancellation of your subscription. when it asks for cc info, just put pin# 4111111111111111 and random exp. date. for some reason it accepts it... i got this trick from my friend, anyone else know anything about it?

oh yea, that's for a visa.

Can anyone confirm or deny this? Can you be caught or charged for this?

I was told to do this in training at a job taking hotel reservations. It is a universal VISA number. It could be used if someone refused to give a credit card number, because the system wouldn't let you through without one.

Thank you for responding, Bryan. But I would like to know if doing this is legal for this magazine deal. Since it's not just about being let into a certain system but rather to actually sign up for a service (whether it is free or not), would this not be considered fraud? After all, the fine print does say it will charge the CC given after your first complimentary year, so in a way, you are "purchasing" a service. Anyone have some insight into this?

what if you used the #411...and a fake name? bet they'll find some way to charge you...like saying..well..you enjoyed the magazines for a year..so that means you agreed to being charge w/o actually agreeing or some b.s like that! HA!

Can i call in now, and say i want to cancel my subscription. Thats after my first year free of course.

ANyone know if its possible. So i wouldn't have to call them in a year and say i want to cancel.

THanks.

If you try, be sure to post whether or not it worked. I'm sure most if not all of us here would like to know if we can cancel in advance and still get the whole year free.

The 411.... visa number (with any experation date) works and passes on most systems when it comes to just validation. The reason is that it's a testing number used by most merchants and cc processors.

I know as I've developed e-commerce sites and it's all part of the standard testing procedure and works on some live systems as well.

Does this mean I will have to cancel every YEAR? Meaning they will send me a notice every year to cancel even if I am not getting the magazines? OR only if I am actually recieving the magazine will I recieve a notice, and the first time I cancel I will not receive another.
