I was unaware that the bible referred to John Stewart and Steven Colbert by name on several occasions.

If this guy had his way, Christianity would be more backwards and hateful than even what the worst Islam extremists preach.

I hope Colbert and Stewart do segments on this. It would be cool if Colbert agreed with him.

That was great. Talking about Sodom, and how the people, the next day, were toast. Accompanied by a picture of a piece of toast. :D
Wow, he used the toast picture at least twice. Stock footage of toast.
That is just classic.

Then, the people, found themselves feeling as dumb as a bunch of turnips.
(Image of turnips.)
They then began to speak out against the evils of the world, braying on like farm animals.
(Image of goats and cows.)

They got their crazies, we've got our own. Ours just haven't quite got the penchant for blowing up things that their extremists have.

Although, a battle of the crazies would benefit everyone - Islamic extremists blow themselves up to kill our psychos. Net result: Level of insanity in the world declines.

Damn, I really feel like having toast now.

From what we were taught in history last year (college class, not high school level), Jesus would probably not endorse anything this guy's preaching. Jesus sounded like a pretty peaceful sort of guy. If people did truly follow his teachings, there would be fewer problems in the world, and that's coming from an atheist. I don't recall anything that said he wanted to kill or harm people, though I really just got the overview of world religions.

The fanatics who are preaching all the fire and brimstone are heretics who worship the bible, as opposed to accepting the teachings of Jesus.

i agree. i think people need to find a balance and realize the Bible was written from man. I forget who said it, but a historian has a famous quote that "God did not deliver the Bible via divine fax." or something...

Ah, old-sk00l l33t stuff.
So they're not technically Christian then. What exactly do they qualify as, besides utterly psychotic?

Jesus said he came to uphold the law or something like that so some christians take that to mean the old testament still applies (most christians believe in the old testament to some degree). Phelp's big kick is being anti-gay and there's anti-gay stuff in the new testament.

Phelp's church has two .PDFs on their site to support their take on christianity.
One is a bunch of examples of scripture that support their views (direct link)
the other is put together to support their position that the christian god is a god of "hatred and wrath towards most of mankind." (direct link)
