Freakin'....

'K, here's the deal... got a VOB to avi converter... it freezes whenever I try to start the conversion, regardless of format.

Quite simply, does anyone have any specific suggestions for a full DVD to divx ripper that's free and that will work on a Windows 2000 system... and that works?!?

I use dvd decryptor to rip (I'm sure you can find it on google), and I agree w/ FrogDog, Flask rocks for encoding. There are a ton of different versions, so find the one that works best for you. I use it to rip DVDs into mpeg4 streams so I can edit them down and make my own music videos. It's a hobby

[edit] I've ripped and encoded in Win2k and now with XP and Flask works great in both.

NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!, Flask is awful. It's supposed to be one of those all-in-one, anybody can do it programs, but the resulting film quality can be horrid in some cases. I use DVD2AVI ----> Vfapi -----> 2 pass DivX encode in VirtualDub for the video and LAME for the audio. Then I multiplex the two back together.
