Anyone remember the old Charlie Daniels song "Uneasy Rider"? There's a line in that tune that goes thusly:

I think I'm gonna reroute my trip
I wonder if anybody'd think I'd flipped
If I went to L.A., via Omaha

Here's the deal: I order a replacement part from a shop in Durham, NC on September 25. I'm in NYC. We're talking east coast here, folks.

I choose the Fedex Ground option, because I know it's about a two-three day (tops) shipping time from NC to here.

So, I keep checking the tracking. Says "Package left Durham on Sept 25" late at night. By Friday, I'm wondering why the tracking hasn't been updated. Nothing new to report on the tracking site.

I go on Fedex's Transit Time Estimator page to see what the expected time is between originating and destination zip codes. Two to three days.

I have a trace put on the package yesterday, and get the shipper to chime in with them, too, as they have the $$$ account with Fedex, and Fedex is more likely to cater to them than me as a recipient.

This morning I log on to the tracking page and see the dang thing has ended up in Sacramento, California! Now I'm peeved. I call Fedex to complain, and the rep tells me that it is a "normal" route for a ground package to take. I say (in so many words) "That's B.S.! No one is going to ship a ground package to California from NC to eventually go to NY!". I tell her I want her supervisor. I get her super who gives me the same line of crap. I tell her that Fedex's own transit estimator says two to three days to NYC from Durham, NC. She says, "Sorry, but it's scheduled for October 6 delivery".

September 25 shipped October 6 delivered. It's a grand total of 508 miles between Durham, NC and NYC. Come on...something ain't right!

This is the second time in a week that Fedex has hosed me. The previous time they held a package for four days at a warehouse about 30 miles from here in NJ until I complained about it. What's happened to this company???

P.S. I know that where overnighted packages are concerned, they all go to a central hub in Memphis --even if it's a package going across town-- but this is ground shipping. With the price of fuel and other costs, no company can afford to be hauling stuff all over the map in such an inefficient way.

I ordered a refurb iPod on sunday. Its picked up from Apple at around 10 pm on monday night and arrives at the FedEx facility in the same city 3.5 hours later. Then I don't get any updates on the tracking info until thursday evening where it shows that its in one of the big hubs in the state. Says its out for delivery at 9 am friday morning, and so I put out the signature release waiver printout that Apple allows so in case they stop by while I'm at class. Nothing when I get home at about 2:30, and so I stick around and watch TV so I can be sure and hear them. Its 7 something in the evening and I go to check the status, and lo and behold it says that they attempted to deliver at 6:22, but they couldn't because I was unavailable for the business was closed, even though they didn't even attempt to deliver (had the release waiver taped to the door for one and it was still there), nothing to note they stopped by. Hopefully they'll actually stop by today, although I wouldn't be surprised if they don't (it says they're supposed to, but we'll see, it being saturday and all).

Wouldn't it be bad business for them to rush ground shipping to people's door like the OP wants? No one would pay for the expensive shipping options then.

We have a winner! Although its still rather stupid to take it to CA just to purposefully slow it down.

And this is why all the cool kids use the real FedEx, or if it must go ground, use DHL.

Hmm...that's odd. I don't recall mentioning what I spent on this package, but I guess it must pale in comparison to yours. The part itself isn't worth $450, but it's holding up a machine that needs to be back in production by this Tuesday worth over $2,000.00. Of course, time is money. There was plenty of leeway for 2-3 day ground shipping to get this thing here in time. So much for your commentary...

The old useless "woulda shoulda coulda" crowd chiming in.

Well you shouldn't be complaining. It was your fault you ordered ground shipping. It doesn't say anywhere in the fine print that they have a specific route they have to follow. GROUND is 5-7 business days. Deal with it, if you wanted 3 day or something, of course you will get it in that time period. I bet fedex gets enough of this ****** everyday.

Sorry to hear all these bad stories. I ordered a Case Logic cd case from buy.com on Thursday of this week, and just received the package a couple minutes ago. This was with budget (7-9 day) shipping too. For some reason though they didn't include my filler item in the package. They probably spent extra money to mail me a pack of stickers through the mail instead of in the same package, haha. :D

can we just ban the OP and ban ANYONE who posts these stupid f'ing posts every single day?

WE KNOW FED-EX DOESN'T SHIP IN A STRAIGHT LINE. YOU'LL GET YOUR PACKAGE. GET OVER IT.

if you wanted it fast, why did you chose ground? jesus christ.

I think it's just that while Fedex ground says 5-7 days, there are occasions where it gets delivered in 3 days. Then people begin ordering Fedex Ground expecting another "faster than usual" transit time and start complaining when it doesn't pan out. As they say, one swallow doesn't make a summer.
