Freakin Ameritech!! NEED ADVICE!

i'm annoyed now. Last week on wednesday, i called Ameritech for my new apartment, which i will be moving into on friday. Anyways, The woman threw the whole speil at me and i said everything was fine. I told her to sign me up. She started typing, and all of sudden she stopped. She asked if i had already signed up for DSL, and i told her no, i had signed up for a phone line, though.

She put me on hold for about 5 min and comes back with her supervisor, who proceeds to tell me that someone had signed me up for DSL already. I was kinda suprised, since no one knew i was moving.

They put me on hold again and when the supervisor came back, she said that this is a very serious problem, and the sales person who sold the other DSL to the unknown will be talked to.

She asked for the phone number of where i will be next week(this week now). I gave it to her and she told me she would call on Tuesday(yesterday).

No call. I'm alittle bit annoyed here. I wanted DSL when i moved in, now i have no idea when i will be getting it. Anyone hewre work at Ameritech or know of a good way to get a few free months out of this?

I'm confused here. You're moving into an apartment. You called AmeriTech to start your phone service. During this phone call, did you request phone and DSL service?

At any rate, it looks like just it might be just simple human error. (A five transposed with a two when someone else was signing up) It could be taking a little bit longer than expected to properly track down the individual who did this.

Unless they're actually late in installing your line, no need to ask for "a few free months."

Not exactly right. The sales person who did set it up put my name on it. So, you see, someone ordered DSL with my name and info, and snt it to another address. They looked at my billing info and saw that i already had one DSl, and asked me if i had already ordered. In essence, someon was using my info to buy DSL. I think the sales people are on commission.

I'm more pissed at the fact that they told me to wait at home for their phone call, and they never called.

I'm stuck with it right now. Nothing else is up where i moved to...

i've used ameritech adsl near ann arbor and it's not that bad, once it's setup anyway. i had to get dsl because att had just bought tci and mediaone that summer, so the cable there was in the midst of restructuring. i was scheduled to have mine installed on sept 1 a few years ago, it was pushed back 2 weeks. the speed wasn't so good compared to @home, which i have now.

the adsl was limited to 768 down/128 up, they probably have fixed the latter within the last few years as that's not a great speed at all vs cable.

i got a good deal on the price though. it was 40 per month and i only had to pay 150 for the install, the equipment was free. when i moved, i sold the alcatel modem for 90 bucks. make sure they give you a standard adsl modem that connects to a NIC, i work for an isp and the USB ones are asking for trouble in the long run. or just tell them USB doesn't work on your PC. 🙂

Here's another vote for the Ethernet DSL modem. I got the self install and it was free. Install was quick and easy too. I was up and running a least a week before my actual activation date. The only thing I have a problem with is Ameritech as an ISP is pretty weak as far as features go. Maybe this will change with the recent partnership with Prodigy.

For anyone that hasn't contacted Ameritech to get service yet, I would highly recommend going over to the Ameritech DSL forum at DSLReports.com and contact drmorley. He works at Ameritech Team Data and will be able to follow the order if there are any problems along the way.
