Fraudlent eBay Feedback

I ran into something I have not experienced yet. I won an auction from someone with minimal feedback. I paid them. I subsequently checked the item and saw they had ten more feedback responses listed, which was strange since they only had one other auction active when I bid. I clicked on their feedback and all the glowing responses led back to auctions with a closing price of $0.01 (that's ONE CENT!) and an auction description of 'bid on my auction, leave positive feedback for me, and I'll do the same for you'.

Has anyone else seen this?

I know you take your chances with eBay. It just amazes me that people wil come up with such creative ways to try to scam others.

Don't trust the NUMBER of positive feedback responses!

If you don't report them then you should consider yourself an accomplice if they use that feedback to commit a crime against an ebay member.
 
I'm seen this happen, but more descreetly between people that probably know each other. Someone puts up an auction starting at $0.01, then has their friend bid on it, and then ends it right away and they both leave positive feedback for each other.
 
Maybe they should weigh the feedback based on several factors including the cost of the item sold and the number of items a certain person buys from them, etc... I don't know, just a thought.

Alleged Auction

Notice---One bidder, The auction was ended early by the seller....

Seller claims he "sold" PS2 info. If you check some of the others the seller traded feedback with, they are even more blatant; they don't even mention an item that is supposedly being auctioned, just 'bid, I'll leave you positive feedback, and you do the same for me.."

I left negative feedback on him; he has since done the same to me. I've never had to go through eBay's complaint/fraud/etc. policies, but I will to get this removed.

wtf is your porblem? I've never seen this kind of blatant misrepresentation before and wanted to make others aware of it, that's all.
 
You can check the individual completed auctions. I guess thats one more thing you would have to look forward when bidding on ebay.
 
dudleydocker, Great Job for doing the right thing. If you work through squaretrade.com you will get his negative feedback removed for free. Look into it.

**Below are the comments I wrote to ebay about this user.***
The user was selling FeedBack.... in SEVEN straight auctions. This is Fraud and makes me worry that he will use that fraudulently obtained

feedback to trick buyers into believing he is a reputable seller. He may also be trying to illegally raise his feedback so he can sell via

dutch auctions and then steal from many people at once. eBay really should have policies in place by now that search auction titles for the

word "feedback" so you can catch these people.

I didn't find the specific section you linked (feedback solicitation) when I contacted eBay originally.

I have already contacted Squaretrade.com as well.


In retrospect, this seems like such an obvious ploy, I can't believe eBay doesn't catch it, either by the auction title or closing price.

I can't honestly say that I read back to the actual auctions when checking a seller's feedback. If the number and comments looked kosher, I went with that. Not anymore!:disgust:

i just dont understand why you started 3 threads , including an off topic thread linking to your other off topic thread. why not just bump? And now you have this one, did all your others get locked or something?
 
doesnt neccessarily mean he's out to scam people, maybe just trying to make it easier to trade, either way that pisses me off

I think ebay will take care of him... Plus... take a look at this auction Noitice that the seller we are complaining about (loated in Nebraska) purchased feedback from another member in Nebraska who is now suspended... ARE they the same peerson?

Anyhow, here is the first reply email from eBay Safe Harbor

Common sense tells you to not only look at their number of positive evals, but to also see what they sold or bought. People get raped out there a lot because they don't bother taking a little time and learn about the seller before buying from him/her.

Like they say.. A sucker is born every minute.
