DAMN! There in the middle of a database update. Here is it in a nutshell:

Suddenly bunches of multi-thousand dollar charges began showing up on their customers credit cards this month. Many had not even ordered in months. The companies site is gone, and their phones are no longer answered.

I live less than a mile away from NATA computers. They are not just a internet company, they are real. They are really nice guys too so there must be much more to this story.

Yep, there is. You'd have to ask the Rhode Island Attorney General's office about it, though, since they're all over NATA like stink on sh*t.

I haven't heard anything about it but am not saying there is nothing wrtong. I'm just saying there is probably more to it than them trying to rip people off. They just don't come off that way to me and i've done a lot of buisness w/them. I buy all my computer equiptment from them.

I'll go by there tomorrow and see if tey are at least still open.

[edit]If the Rhode Island Attorney General is "all over it like stink on sh*t" then why is it not on the news? RI is smaller than Delaware and everything makes the news.

Russ,i'm not trying to discredit your post,i'm just of the opinion that you shouldn't drag their name through the mud until we know they commited a crime.

Yep, it's loading now. I just checked it. And, here's a clue slick, it ain't me dragging their name through the mud. It's all their customers who got ripped off for thousands of dollars. I'm simply making the members of this community aware of the problem.

Many of them got hit with $6000 charges, and they are getting ZERO response when they eMail or call. I'm not buying NATA's flimsy explanation.

Since the AMEX Private Payment started, I never used my real credit card # to order online. Now MBNA offers the same thing.

Discover card this feature too but it is each credit card # per company, which means the company can charge you over and over again with the same credit card #.

Russ, they had a deal a while back for Golden Orbs for $12 and no shipping charge. I was damn tempted to order about 100 of them, but I got a wierd gut feeling at the last minute and did not press the finalize button.
Whew! What fate. I'm glad I followed my gut! :Q

veryape, for your information, most vendors are required to manually approve online orders as a fraud prevention measure. They check such things as making sure the billing address and phone number match what is on the credit card company's records. This is to be sure the person using the card is rightfully entitled to do so. This is no accident. A computer did not start just racking up charges and submitting them for payment.

While you may or may not like or agree with some of the things Russ says, accusing him of going around "stirring the pot" is absured in this case.

Maybe they went bad for some reason.

Compuwiz,I hope they have not gone bad,but anything is possible. I have also heard of credit card companies screwing up with online orders in the past. They had pretty good resellerratings in the past and are doing well, why would they do something like that? I know that they were still open the other day when I went by,and there has been nothing on the local news about it. Maybe I will drop them an e-mail and see what they have to say.

Yeah, right. I happen to know a bit about how credit card processing works. One card company, maybe. But, even then, all the vendor has to do is pick up the phone to get the charge reversed.

In this case, MANY customers, from many DIFFERENT card companies got hit with HUGE charges, including at least one who had his ENTIRE checking account drained because he used a debit card.

I hate to tell you this, but there are lots of "nice" crooks in this world.

The scary thing is I don't remember whether or not I've bought anything from them...

Their web site is down, right? So that means I can't go look & see if it's familiar...

Viper,

Their site is back up. Click the link in veryape's post. The link in mine will take you to their page at ResellerRatings.

Damn I ordered some parts from them a few months back for my current system, with my mom's debit card. Anyone know if your legal options and resources are as abundant w/debit cards as they are with credit cards?
Gonna have to have her check her statements when she gets home :(

Pretender,

That varies from bank to bank. With mine, I have the same protection as a credit card, BUT it's a business card. I don't know if that would apply were it an individual card. You'll need to check with your bank to find out what their policies are.

Thankfully their web page is totally unfamiliar to me. <whew>

Anyway, I find it strange that they have so many good ratings, & then suddenly this happens...

Also, if you were charging $6,000 on people's cards, would you really post a message on your front page like they did? Or would you simply disappear?
