Hey all,
If you have a PayPal Account, you should read this.

I recently got my checking account statement and noticed a charge on it:

8/3/2005 KC Softwarecom LLC 1-509-4611556 $9.95

Now, I buy things online so at first, I didn't think anything of it. I thought it was a regular purchase and then I started to try to figure out what I bought... So I tried searching for "KC Software" and came up with a bunch of sites, but nothing looked familiar. I called the phone number, but there was nothing distinguishing about the recorded message that gave me any indication as to what they sold. Finally, I did a search on their phone number in Google:

"509 461 1556"

I got back some sites reporting this charge showing up on their statements and these were people who knew they didn't buy anything. This lead to my next search:

"KCSoftLLC"

Which returned even more sites. Several people called the company/sending e-mails and the company is claiming someone made a purchase from them using their credit card. It's interesting that so many people have this charge showing up, all from the same company, yet the company says it was someone else coming to the site making a purchase.

Check this out. If you go to the KC Soft website (http://www.kcsoftllc.com) and click the "What is KCSOFTLLC.com billing me for?" link, you first get a certificate sent to you which reads:

Digital Certificate:

Issued To:
Common Name (CN) : domain.domain
Organizaion (O) : DEVBILL HOSTING INC
Organizational Unit (OU) : Not Part of Certificate
Serial Number: 00

Issued By:
Common Name (CN) : domain.domain
Organizaion (O) : DEVBILL HOSTING INC
Organizational Unit (OU) : Not Part of Certificate

Validity:
Issued On: 3/29/2004
Expires on: 3/29/2005

Outside of obviously being a fake certificate, it's expired! You'd think a company who's basis is fraud who created a fake certification would at least go through the trouble of making it have an expiration date sometime AFTER they charged people this amount?

One person made an observation of a connection between KC Software and PayPal being DevBill. I do know the card that was charged for me, was indeed the one used on my PayPal account.

The Better Business Bureau does have a record of other complaints on this company, all of which resulted as "unpursuable". So basically, you're only option is to contact your credit card company and have them try to pursue the issue. Unfortuantely, most credit card companies just credit you back the $9.95 and don't even bother with legal action against them since it's a "small amount". My bank will only pursue a company if it's an amount greater than $25.00.

Anyway, just thought you all should be made aware of this.
