Framing a Collectible Sports Jersey for wall display

hi, was wondering if any of y'all have framed a jersey... any brands or places you can recommend to get the frame?

thanks

don't buy the frame, have it framed. You'd need what is called a "shadowbox frame" for something like a jersey, and I don't think many stores make retail shadow box frames big enough for a jersey.

Take it to a custom framer, they'll do a much better job than you could.

Just look up "framing" in the yellow pages and ask them for a rough estimate over the phone. Take it to the one that gives you the best estimate.. or the one that sounds like they have better service.

have it done profressionally... that is if you want it to look even half-way decent.

The funny thing is that the framing is going to cost you more than the jersey likely.
Professional framing is a racket... they charge so much its amazing... but it seems to be a damn art. It looks so nice.

Yup, I had a movie poster framed last year. Cost me $130 for the framing, $17 for the poster. :| But it looks nice!

I looked into having a football jersey framed last year at Michael's (a craft store), and they quoted me roughly $250. Let's just say it's still resting on a hanger in my closet. 🙁 🙂

heh heh.. i see... 250 for frame and labor for 'framing'...

jumpr.... so since you framed it a year ago... would it have been something you could have done yourself???

sigh well when i walk around memorabilia and look at framed clothing it looks like just that, a garment inside a frame...

how skilled is the work?

My jersey cost me over seven hundred bucks... and I like doing things myself...

I'll look into this some more....

Any professional framers on Anandtech care to share his/her experience???

You can buy DIY frame 'kits' that are better than pre-made frames, but nothing really compares to having a professional do it. The alignment, the frame material (I got metal) and the matting are all done best by the pros.

Was that after the 50% discount? Because I don't think I've EVER been to Michael's and not seen the "50% off your entire framing order" signs.
