Framerate problems during NFS:Most Wanted

I'm having these strange framerate problems with this game. During races, my framerate will suddenly dip for a split second and then recover. It occurs every 30 seconds. The settings I run for this game are 1024*768, 2AA, 8AF, all settings max except NO shadows. I typically get ~35-40 FPS. I used to think this was a problem with memory but after getting 2 GB, the problem is still there. This is the only game that I play that has this problem. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.
