Framerate problem

I recently purchased a Geforce 3 TI 200, and overall I'm pretty happy with it. Everything seems to be running as expected (3dmark, UT, ect.) but in halflife i have noticed my framerates are lower than what I was seeing from my old Gf2 MX. I have tried new detonator drivers, making sure AA and vsync are off, and turning off other things that could possibly lower framerate. The framerate only seems to drop in wide open areas, or in combat.
My specs:
Gainward Gf3 TI 200
Windows 2000 Pro/Win98
128 megs of Crucial PC133 ram (This isnt the problem, with gf2mx I got a constant 72 Fps)
Duron 800
Iwill Kk266
WD 20 gig

Did you uninstall nVidia's drivers before swapping cards?
Also check your driver control panel and make sure that FSAA and anisotropic filtering are both disabled.

Yeah, I have AA and the filtering disabled, and I always make sure I do a fresh video card install. I wonder what else it could be.

How are your benchmarks in other OpenGL games? Are they much faster than your MX?

Make sure vsync is disabled and try bumping up your AGP aperture size to 128 MB.
Also do you have the latest BIOS and chipset drivers for your system?

Well in 3dmark2k1 I was lucky to get 2300-2400 with my MX, and with my Geforce 3 I get around 5300. The limiting factor on that is my processor and ram. I have the VIA 4 in 1s installed but i'll check out Iwill's site on updates. Thanks for the suggestions. :)
Edit: I made sure to disable vsync.

It seems more and more people are having problems with their nvidia cards and fps loss in half-life, and nobody has found a solution yet. It is happening to many different setups and nvidia cards. I have this problem with my asus v8200 deluxe gf3, and I have tried everything I could think of and got nowhere. I have gone back and forth with asus getting nowhere. About a week ago I e-mailed nvidia and I have yet to get a response from them.

Make sure you're running Half-Life in OpenGL and not DirectX.

About the 128MB RAM not being the problem: it might be the problem. Since your videocard has more memory than the old one, it usually requires a larger AGP aperture size. Make sure to set it to 128MB of memory (which is equal to your videocard's memory). However, it is generally recommended to set the AGP aperture size to half of your system memory (although no larger than 256 MB). So what you thought was not the problem for you might actually be the problem for you!

I doubt that is his problem. I run half-life / counter-strike in opengl, and I have 512mb pc2100. I have tried various AGP apeture sizes and they haven't done anything.
