Framerate monitoring software

Is there a reliable, easy-to-use framerate monitor for Linux (specifically Red Hat) similar to FRAPS or MSI Afterburner?

I'm trying to run down some performance problems with a recent port to Linux, and I'd really like to monitor the framerate.

I've been using Valve's voglperf software, but there are some oddities with the framerate that I'm seeing, so I'd really like to cross-check it with something else to verify that what I'm seeing is correct.

I've tried GLXOSD, and I had issues getting it running. I can try again later if I need to.

I've seen posts on the Gallium 3D Heads-up Display, but I haven't tried it. I'm assuming that to use it, I need to be running a Gallium based driver, so this won't work for the proprietary AMD drivers I'm currently trying to use.

Anything else obvious I'm missing?
