Framebuffer in Linux with 3D Prophet 4500 64MB

I've been trying to set up X-windows in RedHat 7.1 with fbdev since that seems to be what people recommend. No luck though. Last error message was that it couldn't find /dev/fb0. I tried to change XF86Config for it to look for /dev/fb1, but can't get it to work. (I'm using a MSI K7T-Turbo mobo)

Thankful for any advice on what to do.

TIA

Err, for what do you need that frame buffer anyway? I doubt that it's gonna speed up anything, at least with Nvida video card.

Edit: Sorry, I somewhy though that 3D Prophet is Nvidia-based video card, my mistake...

Good luck in getting that card wot work with Linux. I tried and got it to work with Mandrake Linux 8.1 and the graphics were horrendous. But I submitted a post at a Linux forum and here is what they said to do: link. If you get it to work with not a lot of jumpy, LMK. But I currently have a second PC with Linux installed with a Nvidia TNT2 Ultra. Good Luck.
