Frame Rate drops in Quake 4

Is it normal that in 1024x768 4x AA 8x AF that in some parts of Quake 4 single player mission it drops down to 30 FPS? I got it on max detail inside the game also in that resolution.

Well, considering you only have a 7600GTS and a non dual-core system, I'm surprised you don't slow down even more than that with those settings.

His PC is hardly what I'd call slow - dualcore isn't a necessity for quake 4 smoothness, and the graphics card is still pretty good.

The main issue is probably running too high anti-aliasing setting, try setting it at 2x instead, or preferably use 1280x1024 with No AA

Based on those specs it looks normal. If you want a large performance boost with a marginal impact on visuals then disable shadows.

dual core doesn't make much of a difference in games
