Frame damage from a small accident

I'm thinking of buying a salvaged car and turning it into a race car. The front end ran into a truck, I'm assuming, and the engine and everything still works, but the frame at the drivers fender side is definitely squished down. Can a shop just LOOK at the pics and estimate the damage, or is it something they really have to take apart to figure out? It's in a different state!

I doubt anyone will do an estimate based on pictures, but someone may be willing to go out to where the car is located to do one. What exactly do you plan on doing to it to turn it into a "race car"?
