Fragmenting?

I OCed it to 475.. The tool I am using registers no temp... It didn't happen before I OCed it, but I didn't use it for very long before I OCed it.

Today, in BF2, I started seeing planes everywhere. I first saw a few out over the ocean.. 2 brown verticle planes going straight up as far as I could see. Then I get a few more.. Looked like they were stemming from the gun I was using? I restarted the game and they went away, then it started stemming from the gun again. If I looked up in the air they would go away. Is that fragmenting? How do I fix it?

Let's see... you OCed the card, and now you're getting rendering artifacts.

Hmm... what could it possibly be? :p

is it at stock speeds now?
if it iis and still artifacting like this, i recommend reseat the hsf, if that dosentwork, time for warranty or a new card.

Ok, so I OCed it too far? Beggarking that was trying to help me flash it to an xt, finally told me just to oc it to 500. so I did and that started almost immediately, then I backed it to 475. I had it at 460 before that and it wasn't doing it..

What exactly causes that?

Hi..
did you OC memory? usually memory isn't overclockable..memory clock should be at default..
if you didn't OC memory, then you might have to down clock vpu...

Either too much heat, or some pathway in the chip isn't latching fast enough for the higher clock speed.

Back off the OC. If you're getting graphical glitches, you are pushing the card too far.

Ok. It makes a little sense... but the tool isn't registering any temperature.

I can OC two different numbers. One is VPU.. not sure about the other one... I'm not at home. I can't remember which it is. I'll just put it back to where I OCed it before and it was working fine.

Read this guide for instructions on how to overclock and test. You can't just take someone's word for it that certain clock speeds will work for you.

http://www.andrew.cmu.edu/user/fma/overclocking__graphics_card2.htm

If this is the standard 9600 (not pro or XT) and the number you're talking about is your core clock, you're gonna bust that thing. Stock core clock for those is 325. I hope you're talking about the memory speed or that your card is a 9600 Pro.

Sorry... it is a pro. When I ran a test on it it set itself to 455. I put it up to 460, then 500, and backed it to 475 .I guess I'll put it back at 450 or so.

Don't listen to this advice. Memory is very "overclockable." Different for every card and cooling solution.

Whew.

Read that guide I linked you to, you'll get a much better understanding of the whole process instead of randomly picking numbers. Following those instructions you'll be able to get the most out of your card.

most 9600pros have low end memory and is usually R360 core, which should default to 500mhz. My R360 core is able to get up to 580mhz. I have 3.3n memory but the max is 303mhz. I got the same artifacts as the ones he mentioned when I tried to OC the memory.

He has 3.6n memory which should be clocked to about 270mhz.

I'm not complaining about you trying to help me! I appreciate it!

I read the other thing.. pretty good..

So why is my tool not registering any board temp?

Where are you getting these numbers from? Default clocks for 9600 Pro are 400/300.

EDIT (edited): 9600 XT uses the RV360, some 9600 Pros use RV350. Probably why he can't flash the bios.

I believe only the 9600 XT has temp monitoring.
