fragile bowflex dumbells...

lozina

Lifer
Bah, apparantly those bowflex adjustable dumbells rely on brittle plastic to attach the weights to the handle bar. I set the weights on the floor after doing some curls last night (ok dropping it *slightly* on a carpeted floor) when one the weights broke off and wont fasten to the handle bar anymore. paid alot for this cheap stuff. 🙁

am I supposed ot gently handle these things like they are Lenox tea cups?

Okay, i'm gonna hijack in a minor way and rave very briefly about Kettlebells. Search for yourselves.
They, and the system involved, are amazing.

Yeah I heard about kettlebells and most of my favorite MMA fighters use those for training.

IIRC they were a bit pricey though right? but at least they wouldn't break if drop them on the ground from 6 inches

true, they wouldnt break...but they'd likely break whatever you dropped them onto 🙂

Sure, i mean worth every penny though. $180 including shipping for a 44lb one and the "Enter the Kettlebell" book.

Another vote for kettlebells, and for sore abs and back afterwards...

Sore back? you're doing it wrong then mate...i think. Sore butt and thighs is how it should be. yeah sore abs though for SURE.

Maybe you're just really good at clenching that, what does he call it, muscle corset?

had to google kettlebells...never knew what that was...wierd device...looks like a canon ball lol I have my Bowflex Xtreme and it does everything I want, just got off of it

Every other set I have played with in stores were broken. If they can't stand up to the abuse of customers, they cannot stand up to daily use.

BTW, don't drop ANY dumbell. Repeated dropping can cause them to break, especially when you start getting to 60 lbs and higher.

are they the same as the nautilous adjustable dumbells? i know someone who just dropped a lot of coin on those and i know that they are the same company

I can't do a full get up yet with a 16kg KB. Half-get ups kick my ass. Cleans and snatches aren't too bad, but I have trouble pressing.

Swings are fun, especially hand to hand swings. Halos aren't bad either, but they're something I do to cool down or warm up with.

Getups are great. I alternate days of those, swings and clean&press. Every workout starts with wall squats and halos to warm up then alternating whatever i'm doing that day with jump rope. My forearms are getting huge, i love the kettlebell. I might start a class here to spread the good word, lol.

I was really hesitant to say I dropped them because I was afraid it would be interpreted as dropping it from a significant distance, but I really only dropped them from tops 6" off the ground, onto a carpetted floor. Since these things are of complex construction compared to a simple solid dumbell I have always tried to be more careful with them, it's not like the dumbells I have seen people drop from like waist level.

I would really love to have the solid dumbells but the problem is the issue of space. And the 52 lb weight limit was not much of an issue for me, I am not the governor of California. 🙂

I forgot to call the company yesterday- mind was preoccupied after doing an interview for a new job. I'll call them today after getting out of work.

I read that kettlebells are outdated. Now they somehow became a fad...
