Fractal generation

I was wondering, do any of you create fractals on your computers? I've been interested in it, seeing all of those awesome fractal pictures on the internet, but I'm not sure where to start and what tools I'll need.

Anyone mess with these?

There is a free fractal screensaver available. Its part of a distributed computing thing though.
