I recently got a define r4. It looks so nice and seems to have a really high build quality. The first thing I go to do is to screw in the motherboard standoffs, and lo and behold they would not go in.

Upon closer examination with a flashlight, it looked like the motherboard standoff female holes on the case were drilled, but not tapped.

I am pretty pissed, but do you guys have any ideas on where to go from here? Can I tap out the holes myself? Or should I suck it up and pay more money to ship this back to Newegg and get another, hoping that it will be properly machined?

Send it back to Newegg. You can tap the screws yourself but to acquire the right size for the right price is more work. Or you could totally ignore that standoff if its nowhere near the CPU socket, since it does not have to bear as much load as ones closer to the CPU socket.

thanks I'm gonna do as you suggest. especially because it is not just one hole that is not drilled out, but ALL of them.

Probably will go with another manufacturer as well. shouldn't reward this company for their crappy qc.

have you tried emailing fractal customer support direct?
they may just send u a brand new case.
Talk to them, and be very civil, don't hammer them with insults, but in a tone of

Sample:
"can you help me with this please."

Take pictures so you can show proof it wasnt tap'd.

They have very good customer service, and if they say they need you to mail the case back, then take it up with newegg.

Every manufacturer makes mistakes. It's unfortunate you have to deal with it but you really should try FD's customer support. I had an issue with some parts missing when I got my Fractal Design Define Mini. Sent them an e-mail and they responded in about 2 hours and had the missing pieces to my door in less than 48 hours.

Compare that with my warranty request on some modular cables that broke with my Coolermaster PSU. Submitted the request on the same day, responded 2 days later and got the part about 4 weeks after that.

Hey, don't bash the entire company for one mistake. Email them before you return the case to Newegg and they'll probably take care of you. Fractal, from what I've read, is very responsive and looks out for their customers.

Tell them you expect some booth babes to come to your house and tap the holes for you.

ROFLROFL...

i remember i jokingly said that to my contact at gigabyte..
and she said if it would make me feel better she would dress up as a booth babe at the CES party when she saw me next year.
