FPS on consoles?

To me, the only way to play FPS are using a keyboard and mouse... I don't get how people can play FPS on consoles with a joypad... I just can't aim with that thing!

Am I missing something here?

Fixed. 😛

It really isn't that bad - to be honest, I can't use a KB/M combo anymore to play FPS. I used to be into Q2 and then Q3 - played almost all through college before I got my XBox. I'm just used to the controller now.

I just don't play FPS's on consoles so I'm not sure hard they are to control. People seem to love Halo so it must be okay in some games.

I just bought a PS2 and am interested in some of those Ghost Recon games (I had 1 on PC before, loved it)... I am just worried using the joypad will totally ruin the game for me... sounds like it will...

the control on a PC converted game is always better on the PC than it is on XBox (ie, games like CS, half life, etc).

however, games that are on consoles exclusively always play fine on consoles. they are designed for consoles. just look at golden eye, perfect dark, and halo. they are all some of the #1 games on the consoles.

i personally think halo on PC controls worse than halo on XBox. halo was designed for a console (the actual release of the game, not the initial design), not for PC. it's geared towards a controller (aside from just the aiming part).

I've played several, including the halo games, and I'm inclined to agree with craigrt's first post. They really are an ass interface for an FPS game. In fact, if you really don't find an xbox/ps2 controller to be a huge detraction on the game's enjoyability I'd argue that you suck at FPS games with a keyboard/mouse and probably just do keyboard for your computer gaming (like I used to in 1996).

umm no ... if anything, people who are good with a controller will be even BETTER with a mouse/keyboard.

i know i am, and many of my friends are as well.

Does a normal computer KB/Mouse work with the PS2? My PS2 does have 2 USB ports on the front of it...

you could never possibly be as accurate with it... the kb/mouse is so easy, all the buttons can be custom bound depending on your taste, it's the only way to go!

I was playing Halo2 which is an OK game, but so freaking frustrating trying to line up people with the retarded joystick.. i wish the system came with a mouse!

some games it works natively. FFXI for the ps2, you could just plug in a usb keyboard and mouse and go. most games it won't work or you can get a special adapter which plugs into your controller port. It converts the keyboard/mouse movements to controller signals and it can be bulky at times.

I can't aim worth sh!t in FPS consoles. I guess if you play them a lot you would get could at it, but I don't think the aiming is nearly as precise as when using a mouse.
