FPS is way below what it normally runs

Ok, I reformatted my hard drive a few days ago and I reinstalled everything, but now CS:S only runs like 20 - 40 fps. Before, it ran around 100 at max settings. I installed the latest 71.89 drivers for the video card and installed the latest drivers for the motherboard chipset. Vertical sync is off, monitor is set to "performance." Any other things I might be missing? This is weird...

ummm....not really... so i'll just throw some random stuff out:

- was your card overclocked before and not now?
- maybe a HL2 patch screwed you over?
- is AA forced instead of application preference?

-Yes, but even after overclocking it now it's running really low fps
-Actually I'm hoping this is the case so that none of my hardware is crapping out
-Everything is application controlled

By the way, what does 20 - 40 fps feel like? Usually CS runs pretty smooth (even though cl_showfps 1 says that I'm running really low fps)...only when there are like 4 or 5 people on the screen all shooting at each other at once does the fps drop to about 15 and things get slightly choppy. Hmm.

Any other ideas?

You've probably forgotten to install your chipset drivers.

Yeah I'm with him.

Also, have you tried this on any other games? Try Doom 3 or 3dmark05 if you have them.

Yeah, run aquamark & 3Dmark05. If the benchies come out fine it might be a bad install or patch of HL2. I.e., the problem rests with HL2 and your HW is fine.

It also could be that the new drivers don't work well for CS. I have had that happen before where new drivers will run like poop in a game I had been playing well beforehand.
