Edit: Seriously, 30fps as stated above is the minimum for smooth gameplay in most games, however the higher the better.

Only for games like UT2004. Otherwise I'd put the minimum around fifteen frames per second.

>50 should usually be ok also
35=50: maybe ok or acceptable/tolerable

however i have seen games giving relatively high fps but crap play for that many fps

one can only acheive the tolerable fps framerate if crystals are keeping cpu cool

The gameplay suffers if the fps drops below 40, IMO. I'm not sure why reviewers are all about average fps when minimum FPS is just as, if not more, important.

I can tolerate about 25, but that's because I've been used to crappy framerates in my entire gaming career.
