fps drop when gaming

I think this is a video card related problem but I just built a new computer and here are the specs

DFI Ultra-D mobo
2x512 PC3200
PNY 6600GT (underclocked to 450/900)
3800 Venice @ 240 x 9 (2160 MHz)

When i first put this thing together, i could play cz w/ 99 fps no matter what..recently it doesnt matter if i have my fps max set to 99 or 50 i get a ridiculous drop when I am shooting in the game to about 30 fps. My CPU runs @ about 37C when i'm playing the game and teh GPU cooler is about 47 or so. I hvae the most currently update vid drivers but this is really annoying me because i think a 6600GT should most definetly run CZ @ 99 fps

any suggestions on how to isolate hte problem, whether it is my card, cpu or teh game?

A few things:

1) Defrag your HDD
2) Reinstall CSCZ
3) Reinstall Vid Card Drivers

If those don't help, come back and let us know.

Follow the other suggestions, they're all good.

Could also be background applications, low virtual memory settings, or setting audio acceleration too high.

Don't know much about CZ (hell, don't even know what it stands for lol...) so can't help you with tweaks. Sometimes little things like turning off the shells from your gun, shadows off, or lowering audio quality can help a ton.

why did you underclock your card

i have the same card and it overclocks fine

i underclocked because I was getting these problems when overclocked so i wasnt sure if that was the problem. The HDD was defraged just last week.

it might be something w/ the audio, i've been having issues with my mic sometimes working, sometimes not, perhaps i'll look at it from that angle because i ran BF2 and although i dont know what my fps was, it wasn't laggy at all

Thanks for the sugg, i'll try some more stuff

for BF2 press ~ to bring up your console and type game.lockfps 399 that will display your fps in the upper left side corner in red numbers.

Ur OC seems a lil Fked up.. I thought venices were like 2.6-2.8ghz outta da box. and which Bios are u using.. switch to Oskar wu, 509-2. it works best fo me

Ur system might not be in tip top as a whole, and "whobbly"

I think he intentionally hasn't clocked it as high as it will go. As for the OCability of the Venices, most of the E3s will hit 2.6, but the E6s aren't nearly as good, and I'm not sure about the E4s.

3800 Venice @ 240 x 9 (2160 MHz) 😕 stock is 2.4ghz, why is it underclocked, also 2cool4u what resolution are you playing at and what about your IQ settings?

Oh, I thought it was a 3000+ when I saw the 9x multiplier. WTF?

Here's my $.02. Put your cpu and video card back to stock speeds. Back everything up, format, reinstall. Quick, easy, works.

Yo mrkun , i c u got plat rev 2s,, did u get the tccd or the tcc5,, i'm really think tccd is better, but OCZ says otherwise

might be something w/ the audio

That is the first thing I thought when I read your OP. Sounds like driver overhead causing hitches when trying to load/play the gunshot audio. What was your sound setup and what is it now?
