FPS dips in Arkham Origins

I'm sort of late to the party on this one, but I just picked up Arkham Origins on steam sale. Having fun so far, but I've noticed that the frame rates are ALL OVER the place. I'm usually above 60, but I get occasional dips into the 10-15-borderline-slide-show range.

Rig is in sig, I'm on 1920x1200, with PhysX off, FXAA high, crazy-shadows off, everything else turned up. I haven't updated catalyst in a while, I'm on 13.9, and I see most of the benches (where the 7870 handles this game quite well at my settings) are using 13.11, should a driver update fix this?

This is so funny, I decided to jump ship on Arkham origins and grabbed it myself. I started playing it and I noticed HUGE FPS dips, especially when gliding through the city. This was something I never had an issue with in City, and Asylum. I started looking around for answers but I came to the conclusion that the game is just poorly optimized, I uninstalled.

BTW: I am using a 270x with the latest drivers.

Oh, so you're basically using the same GPU as me?

That stinks. I guess I'll give the driver update a whirl, but it sounds like maybe I'm just SoL.

I doubt it uses a different engine. DX11 in City was always borked hard. Makes sense that it translates to Origins which uses DX11 exclusively, I think.

I liked Origins enough for what it was, a stopgap.

I'd try updating your drivers. Arkham Origins came out October 2013, after the 13.9 driver released. But Rocksteady did a horrendous job implementing DirectX 11 features into the Unreal Engine back with Arkham City, and it's still rather shoddy even after patches. Origins was handled by a lesser developer while Rocksteady was working on Arkham Knight, and as I recall they specifically said they were dropping any attempts at further patching the game, including game-breaking bugs, so they could focus on DLC. I never bothered with Origins.

Updated to 14.9 last night.

Update was clean, no issues yet, messed around in Arkham Origins for a while, and things look dramatically better. There were no sub 10 FPS dips during minor cutscenes, even big fights were ~60, flying and grappeling around the city was silky smooth too.

As a reference, I did finally run into an area that updated drivers didn't fix.

The first predator encounter inside blackgate prison is bizarre. There are only 8 enemies on screen. I've done previous encounters with more enemies that were a crisp 60fps more or less the whole time, but for some reason this one regularly drops to ~10FPS.
