So, I've converted myself and a few family members to Foxit Reader. Other than the minor annoyance of unchecking a few spam type items during install it's been a pleasant, lightweight PDF reader.
That said I've run into a few issues now with launching PDF objects from certain applications like MS Word and AOL. I don't use AOL but some family members do. In either case (AOL or Word) you can't launch embedded PDF files directly, they'll give an error message. In AOL you can detach the file / save it to a folder and then it launches fine from explorer into Foxit.
In WinWord, the embedded PDF objects can't be detached or launched. If I embed my own pdf file and send it to others using Acrobat they can't launch it (but I can). I've read this has something to do with OLE but I've done some googling and can't find any (registry) tweaks / settings to help. Anyone know of any hacks to get it to work?
Again, PDF association is fine in explorer it's just something that appears to be with some apps that use OLE or some other custom pdf integration technique.
Worst case I'll just install acrobat.
