Foxconn or MSI

Hi have got a Foxconn motherboard socket 775 but want to upgrade to a i7 but can't decide between a foxconn motherboard again or MSI?
 
Are you overclocking? The MSI board will probably have more OCing/tweaking options in the BIOS. But for just running at stock, both boards would probably work equally well.
 
the msi boards run hot...posts all over about it...might need to rework heatsink assy if u get msi...
 
Well Foxconn kills employees with chemicals and offers compensation to families if you commit suicide.
 
Yeah I'd never buy Foxconn cause of all their work issues (which pinches me wanting to get the 4G iPod Touch...)

If you buy many electronics you are buying Foxconn products. They supply many many connectors etc to many electronics mfgs.
 
One thing to consider is the bios updates. My last MSI board had issues updating the bios. Their tools had issues and it wasnt exactly a quick and easy update. It was a little quirky. Compared to ther MBs Ive owned, MSI had the most hassle updating bios. It was doable but a lot more aggravating vs other brands. Maybe the one your interested in doesnt have these issues, but it would be something to think about and check. Other than what I mentioned, I liked my MSI board and it seemed to OC well.

A fair point, and I'm sure Foxconn isn't the only manufacturer with problems. But I'd like to at least avoid such companies that I am aware of with such struggles. And per your point, sometimes there's just no practical way to.
 
MSI is the way to go.

The only MSI board that had issues was a single board that was lacking some NB cooling for X58
 
Are you willing to stop buying computers? Because the CPU socket on your motherboard is probably made by Foxconn, as well as all the other slots/sockets (RAM, PCI, PCI-e, etc.) and the connectors on the rear panel. A lot of OEMs use Foxconn motherboards, but even if you build yourself and buy motherboards from ASUS or another company, chances are it uses some Foxconn parts. Your keyboard and mouse? Probably manufactured by Foxconn, then bundled with a PC or sold by Microsoft, Logitech, etc. They employ nearly half a million people and are involved in many parts of the computer industry.
 
yeah, morral issues aside i have had alot more failures on MSI boards than foxconn. I had 4 S939 MSI boards dies on me within 1 year. will never buy a MSI product again.

Same here.

Most of the EMachines and Gateway machines I have had the pleasure of replacing dead MBs for customers were in fact MSI boards.
 
I run a Foxconn mATX 775 board in my WHS box and it has been solid for quite a while now. Haven't had an MSI board since the Socket A days.

But then I have an irrational aversion to red PCB motherboards.

These days I just buy Gigabyte and have yet to be disappointed.

Gotta love moral high horses spewing bullshit they never even experienced themselves. Foxconn has 400,000 employees; did Foxconn get so many employees by pointing a gun in their faces to work for them? No, they joined willingly BECAUSE they will be far worse off if they don't.
 
Don't buy into the media mob mentality, guys. Foxconn isn't doing anything terrible to its employees, it's just bad luck.
 
Go with the foxconn for sure..look at newegg open box returns and you hardly ever see a foxconn x58 board...ive used 2 of them in customer builds and had zero problems..they are crazy good looking in a windowed case...they will hit 4.0ghz with no problem...but for moderate o/clocking really any of the 180-220$ boards would suit you just fine ,although i have read alot of complaints and returns is poor cooling...just google it and see what you get...im am msi fan as ive used them every so often but the x58 is hot...
