Hello Everybody,

Just checking in to let everybody know that Monarch has a $99 nForce4 Motherboard by Foxconn.

The product description given would suggest this is an nForce4 Ultra part, however, other stores which carry this motherboard (under the NF4K8MA-KS moniker) suggest this is an nForce4 vanilla part w/o the ActiveArmor hardware firewall.

At any rate, it is a uATX board, perfect for the Antec Aria ;)

Peace

I dont know if this is a good or bad board, but I know that there are virtually no mATX motherboards for 939, much less one of the nForce4 boards. This is great news, as I have been looking to make my next system something small. At the very least, it gives a 939 mATX option. At the best, it will encourage other mboard makers to create more mATX 939 boards! Now if Fry's could only bundle this with an A64 3200+ and get the price to $200 (still quite a few months off, yet), then I'll be ready to build my next computer . I've been using Barton 2500+ overclocked to 3000+ for 15 months. Last year was the first year that I did not upgrade my computer because the improvement was so marginal for such great cost.

There's a couple other ways to tell besides active armor if its nforce 4 ultra. One is, the speed of the HT link. Ultra is I think 1000mhz speed while the normal is I think 800 speed.
Second, are the SATA ports the SATA II with 3gb speed? Thats also only in the ultra.
The monarch description has all three of these, so it must be an ultra flavor unless they are false advertising.
Also the press release (can't find a product link) mentions its ultra: http://www.foxconnchannel.com/...eleaseDetail.cfm?pId=9

This makes the deal SCORCHING hot unless the motherboard totally sux. Most of the nforce 4 normal motherboards like the gigabyte one are going for far more. Like on newegg the non ultra non micro ATX gigabyte is going for $150.

Edit: Corrected a silly typo about the sata speed.

Yeah, with so many features onboard now adays, we don't need as many slots as we used to. 1 for PCIe/AGP, 1 for TV tuner if you are into it, and 1 for spare.

That may be fine for those who already have a s754 setup and want PCI-e, but for everyone else, a s754 NF4 solution is useless.

I've built quite a few systems with Foxconn motherboards recently and i've been very impressed.
They've all been very stable systems and they update their bios on the website quite often.

I'll be one of the first to pick up these boards at that price! This will make a nice small fast gaming system :)

After the thread in General Hardware on Monarch, I do not think I will ever buy from them. :)

Monarch responded to the issue and made a change in their policy.

Wow. I need to make it on here more often.

Well, this policy is going to be changed. It was listed in the terms and conditions, as well as in an included paper with combo orders that metallic based thermal compounds voided Monarch warranties. It was made known that it would void the warranty, so its not something that was just thrown in there after the fact. All of this is not really my area, but we are changing the terms and conditions to allow the proper use of AS as well as other thermal compounds. This will be changed very shortly on our website, because well, you demanded it.

Hello all,

As Joe said after reviewing the information we have decided to alter the policy on AS. When we instated the policy the AXP was a very popular processor. It was very easy for a customer to misapply AS on a processor and as a result damage the processor. In fact we even had some of our customers apply AS all over the processor package, not just on the die. We had received notice from a popular processor manufacturer that Monarch could not receive warranty on processors using a metallic based compound. As a result we could not warranty these processors. With processors shipping with a metallic lid over the electronics this becomes less of an issue. We will now be moving to a poicy where thermal compound misuse will void the warranty, rather than just the use of metallic compound altogether. We understand that many users do know how to apply compund correctly, but there are users out there who do not. Basically so long as the compound is not on the motherboard or in the processor socket we will honor the warranty.

Actually, the difference in the 800/1000 HTT is determined by the revision level of the chips. Nvidia didn't have the 1000 HTT fixed until revision A03 of the nForce4 . Also ,the SATA II ports run at 3Gbps as opposed to 1.5Gbps on regular SATA, but you are correct that only the Ultra and SLI have the SATA II.

Nforce 4 A02 silicon still has its problems

Anyone order this yet? Curious about how oc'able/stable the board is.
$100 for the mobo and $155 for a bare 3000+ is a good combo if it can hit 2.4+ghz stable imo.
