I goofed up on a PC build for someone. 😱
I'm working on a Foxconn C51XEM2AA AM2 board
It has a on the board serial COM connector that attaches to a PCI
bracket to provide a COM port.
Well, the FP1, front panel connector, is identical in size and shape to the COM port. The COM port connector also sits right next to the motherboard onboard power switch and reset switches too.
So, I took a glance at it, said, "Oh, here is the FP1 connector" and attached the case power, reset, HDD LED, etc. to the COM port.
Of course, it did not work, though I did get LED lights. I found the error.
The FP1 port is way over on the edge of the board, and it sits vertical.
Anyway, the board seems to work fine, I attached an old serial mouse to the COM port and it works too.
This PC is not for me, and I have no use for a COM port, but the owner might need to use it.
I don't want any unpleasant surprises for him.
What do you guys think? Any damage done that I might not know about?
Looking at the pinout for the COM and the FP1, it looks like I grounded one of the pins for sure.
