Hi everyone.

I am wanting to know if the Foxconn 680i SLI ATX motherboard supports Intel's upcoming Penryn CPU. Also, is Intel's P35 the only chipset that DOES support Penryn?

I am trying to decide on which motherboard to purchase. Foxconn's 680i SLI or ASUS's P5K Deluxe WiFi P35 motherboard. I only wish Intel would have worked with Nvidia and had SLI available on the P35. Quite the disappointment.

Too many stuff to cover, so little time available atm :(

1st of all, do you need SLI ? ( I mean you already have two nVIDIA VGAs that you want to run in SLI ? )
2nd, unofficially ( yet ) the 680i chipset supports Penryn, and a BIOS update is all you need ( some manufacturers will release such BIOSes, at least that's what I've got ).
The 975X, P965, and P35 support Penryn ( BIOS Updates as well for them ) [ I don't know if a manufacturer will care to release a BIOS for the 975X mobos though ]
X38 will support Penryn as well, and currently there are drivers that allow SLI to work on it, but they're not released yet and Intel + nVIDIA didn't come to a decision yet ( if they'll release 'em or not ).

Also if you got Core 2 Quad overclocking in mind, stay focused on P35 & X38* ( unless you explicitly need SLI ) [ the * next to X38 is about the above mentioned stuff ].

last I heard x38 is not going ot be out before the end of September. P35 will definitely support Penryn, 680i can but its up to motherboards (my bet would be on evga as they have been the best with updates, though asus and dfi are also likely (asus has said they will have an update for their 680i boards).

If you plan on overclocking then you should note that p35 does a much better job with quads then 680i (though evga is not bad) and that might follow through with Penryn (or it might not).

I just ordered a gigabyte 680i board but got a rev 1 (which has quad core issues) so I am sending it back and might go evga/dfi or I might go p35. I dont like the limited pci express on p35 but the issues with overclocking quads on 680i and likley similar issues with Penryn make me question whether its worth buying a 680i board now.
