It's simple... people abuse the services. That's why notfred decided to cut out on such a generous offer he was throwing out...

When I was picture hosting, I was pushing 1.5 gigs a fricken day. That was on a 256 up & down internet connection. My isp didn't like me for it, they said I could run a server, but I agree, that's too much for what's supposed to be a "residential" unlimited internet connection.

I didn't want to pay $50+/month in bandwidth overuse charges, that's why registration is disabled.

I guess free means to overabuse these days.

When I put up the "donate" button on my site, I figured the majority of poeple wouldn't use it, but maybe 5 or 10% at least would.

I was wrong, it was right about 1% of registered users that donated anything, and about half of those donated more than $1. I can't afford to run this for everyone else's benefit and lose money on it.

BTW, everyone who donated still has an account on the site.
